Ms. Smith has extensive trial and litigation experience in the defense of a wide variety of cases, including professional negligence, construction defect, premises liability, products liability, toxic torts, wrongful death, and vehicular collisions.   She has successfully argued appellate cases in the Missouri Court of Appeals, United States District Court, and the Missouri Supreme Court.  She also has significant experience litigating environmental matters and suits stemming from exposure to asbestos, silica, mold and lead paint, as well as defending employers against Title VII claims and other civil rights cases. Ms. Smith also regularly represents clients in computer software and other business disputes. 

Ms. Smith has been selected as a “Super Lawyer” by a peer review survey magazine since 2006, an honor bestowed on no more than 5% of the lawyers in the state.  She is a Fellow in the trial lawyer honorary society, Litigation Counsel of America, composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers based upon effectiveness and accomplishment in litigation and superior ethical reputation. Ms. Smith has also been elected to the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), a national organization of experienced trial attorneys and judges.  She has been chosen as one of the "Women Leaders in the Law" by ALM, a global leader in specialized business news and information.  She annually instructs at the Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers' Trial Academy at the University of Missouri. 

Ms. Smith earned her Juris Doctor at the University of Tulsa, where she was a member of the Order of Barristers, The Energy Law Journal and the Trial Advocacy Team.  She was a recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award for Pre-Trial Practice and the American Bar Association's Silver Key Award.  She has been certified as a mediator by Washington University School of Law.  Ms. Smith is currently permitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th and 10th Circuits, the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri, the United States District Court for the District of Kansas, the Missouri Supreme Court and all Missouri state courts.
