Ben attended the University of Kansas School of Law, where he was a member of the Kansas Journal of Law & Public Policy and the moot court and mock trial councils. While an editor of the Journal, his article, Prior Involuntary Institutionalization Does Not Justify a Lifetime Second Amendment Ban: An Originalist Approach to 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(4), was selected for publication and has since been featured by the Duke University School of Law Center for Firearms Law.

During law school, Ben received awards for Best Overall Brief and Third Best Oralist at the Federal Bar Association’s National Moot Court Competition held in Washington, D.C. He was also a finalist and received the 2020 Polsinelli Award for Best Overall Brief in KU’s In-House Moot Court Competition. Upon graduation, Ben was awarded the 2021 Jack E. Dalton Legal Writing Award—an award given to a graduate for demonstrating excellence in legal writing. Ben served as an Intern for Justice Evelyn Wilson of the Kansas Supreme Court where he experienced firsthand how a Kansas Supreme Court opinion is originated, drafted, and ultimately issued.

He also clerked for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), where he received an in-depth understanding of one of the nation’s financial regulatory agencies and worked on matters involving the Dodd-Frank Act, Consumer Protection Act, and Banking Secrecy Act.

Prior to law school, Ben attended Fort Hays State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and was the team captain of the varsity baseball team.
