Mr. Gaughan practices throughout the states of Kansas and Missouri in the fields of insurance defense litigation and insurance coverage litigation. He has successfully defended numerous personal injury, products liability, premises liability, and construction defect claims. Mr. Gaughan also has extensive experience litigating insurance coverage disputes arising out of homeowners policies, farmowners policies, automobile liability insurance policies, uninsured and underinsured motorist insurance policies, commercial general liability policies, and business owners policies. In addition to insurance coverage litigation, he also defends claims for extra-contractual damages that arise out of insurance coverage disputes, including claims for bad faith and vexatious refusal to pay. Mr. Gaughan earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law. During law school, he was a member of the Missouri Environmental Law and Policy Review. He received the C. Lawrence Leggett Excellence in Insurance Defense Prize, an award given to the graduating senior who writes the best paper in insurance defense and becomes a member of the Missouri Bar upon graduation; the JB Reynolds Student Award, given to the student with the best work in Insurance Law; and the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Insurance Law, given to the student with the highest grade in Insurance Law. Mr. Gaughan received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Rockhurst University in Kansas City.
